The client is wholly-owned by the Malaysian government and is vested with the entire ownership and control of petroleum resources in Malaysia. Over the years, the client has grown to become a fully-integrated oil and gas corporation and is ranked among the FORTUNE Global 500’s largest corporations in the world. the client has four subsidiaries listed on the Bursa Malaysia and has ventured globally into more than 30 countries worldwide in its aspiration to become a leading oil and gas corporation of choice.

Requirements

• Full migration of collaboration platform to Exchange Server 2003 & Sharepoint Portal Server 2003/VS.NET 2003;

• Consolidate application system & centralize management to all application;

• Communications with a work force of 24,000 which has been using more than 12,000 applications spread across 6 regions in Malaysia.

• Transfer our knowledge to PETRONAS to help 50 of IT staff members become MS Certified Professionals.

• Duration: 18 months

• Large scale: 1532 unique applications (revised from 12,000+ original NSF files, at 50+ operational units across 6 regions in Malaysia;

• Multi streams: Application Migration, Mail box Migration & Roll Out Microsoft Office;

• End-user habit challenge: 12 years of using Notes applications.

• A 1532-migration project usually contains implicit risks which may turn out to be problems for customer, individual users and the project team themselves. Foreseeing the difficulties, FPT Software proposed concrete solutions as the following:

  • Human resource availability is the prerequisite to the success of this project. With large pool of software engineers, FPT Software was able to scale out 350 people with appropriate skills at peak time;

  • 3-phase roadmap was a success which was evidenced by the sound progress of the project and the created favors for change management;

  • Our expertise and experiences in frameworks and tools were made full use of which proved to help reduce work load and keep the quality stably at high level;

• To make sure the compatibility and smooth coordination in a multi-stream project, a System Management Division was established to early identify the problems and quickly response them as well as emerged problems during the whole process.

• How to break the habit of users that had been accumulated through 12 years is a real challenge which requires integrated and creative change management approach. FPT Software change management plan included 3 components:

  • Leverage sponsorship of key figures at executive and local levels.
